Your teenager does not have to be a troubled teen to get into teen drug use. The fact of the matter is that club drugs like MDMA (ecstasy) are popular even among the "good" teenagers. This is because when used as a party drug, ecstasy can provide hallucinagenic effects and sensory enhancement. However, MDMA can be addicting, and teen drug abuse of this party drug, and other club drugs, can lead to serious health problems and can even result in death. Be on the alert for the use of such drugs, and make sure that you speak with your teen regularly about the harmful effects of teen drug use.

Teen drug use of meth among suburbanites on the rise

When one thinks of meth, one generally thinks of home labs. However, teen meth use is on the rise in suburban America, and not through the substance abuse of home-cooked meth. Stronger, purer, meth use is on the rise among teenagers, and much of it is imported. It is important for parents of teenagers, whether troubled teens or not, to be aware that teen meth use is on the rise. It is rising across all socioeconomic scales, and is especially pronounced in suburban areas.

Signs of teen meth use

There are some signs of teen substance abuse of meth to be on the look out for. Teenagers that use meth generally have erratic sleeping habits. They may go to bed very late, but still remain energetic. School grades may begin to drop, and drastic changes in friends, clothing and extracurricular activities may result. Even among those not considered troubled teens meth use is on the rise. So watch for the signs and get drug treatment as soon as possible.

Prescription medications represent a growing teen drug abuse problem. Even if your teenager is not a troubled teen, he or she could still be susceptible to prescription drug use. And, if he or she becomes addicted, then the troubled teen behavior might start.

Why teenagers use prescription drugs

There are lots of reasons that teen substance abuse includes prescription drugs. Teens can get a "buzz" from their use. But, generally, teens have the idea that prescription drugs are safe because they are legal and controlled by the government.
